An Invitation to Re-Think Church from Pastor Jon

Dear Friends,
2020 is almost over, but the events and seismic changes of 2020 have forever changed our lives.  The change is evident in the way we think, feel, and encounter our world.  The change is experienced in our personal lives, families, community, nation and world.  The change has also impacted the church, the way we think about church, and the ways that we choose to live and be
the church.  These changes have forced us to Re-Think Church.  In March of 2020, we discovered ways to have an impact on lives that we never imagined we could reach as the church made a jump to an online campus.  Lives that were as close as a block and as far away as 1,000 miles have been impacted with the Good News, small group life, and missional living. This reality is not going away, and with millions of people in need of Jesus, we want to share the gospel in as many ways as possible.

As we enter into 2021, it’s time for us to Re-Think Church once more.  What does it mean to be the church in 2021 for those that are in need of the hope, love, and grace that comes from a personal relationship with Jesus and a community of faith either virtual or in person?  How will we live out our vision of “Jesus Revealed.  Lives Transformed.  Church Sent Out.”? How will we gather together in person for vibrant children, student, life groups, and mission opportunities that impact and form lives into becoming deeply committed followers of Jesus?

We have an opportunity in 2021 to be part of shaping the next spiritual awakening that is happening right now.  As we prepare to re-launch in person ministries, why settle for re-opening something in the same way it was before when we can launch and be part of a movement of the Holy Spirit.

We are inviting you, and all of our Church of the Shepherd leaders and staff, to be part of this exciting conversation and the next chapter of transformation at Church of the Shepherd.  Beginning the week of January 10th, leaders, staff, and congregational members will join together for four weeks of learning, conversation, and discernment as we Re-Think Church together.  We want you to be a part of the conversation.  We will gather in Zoom meetings at 8:00 -9:15 pm on Monday or 7:00 - 8:15 pm on Thursday evenings.

Together, we will unpack our vision for Church of the Shepherd, the mission that God has called us to and our values.  We will dive deep into why we do what we do and who we are.  We will share how we are forming staff, teams, and ministries to meet a changing world with an unchanging message of faith.  We will begin to dive into how we, together and individually, can share that faith with others.

We are excited to be doing this together with you. This is our moment to pray, participate, worship, lead and give together as we Re-Think Church for 2021 and beyond.
